The object of the NACS prize, created in 2013, is to recognize and promote the academic work of scholars in the field of Catalan Studies whose primary professional affiliation is with higher education or research institutions in Canada and the United States. The prize is awarded to publications devoted to the study of the society, the language, and/or the culture of the Catalan-speaking territories from all areas of the Humanities.
PRIZE FOR THE BEST ARTICLE IN CATALAN REVIEW
The prize will be given biennially to the most innovative and high-quality original research article appearing in the journal over a two-year span. For the current cycle, articles published in issues 38 (2024) and 39 (2025) will be considered. The prize will be awarded at the 20th North American Catalan Studies Colloquium in the State University of New York at Buffalo, USA April from April 16 th to the18th, 2026.
Prize: The winner will be awarded a certificate, $400 USD, and an announcement on the
North American Catalan Society webpage with a link to the article.
Guidelines:
a) All articles published in the Catalan Review will be considered automatically without the author being required to submit a nomination request.
b) A committee composed of members of the NACS will select the awardee.
c) If the committee is unsatisfied with the pool of articles, the prize will be left unawarded for that cycle.
THE NORTH AMERICAN CATALAN SOCIETY (NACS) PRIZE
For a outstanding work in the field of Catalan Studies
COMPETITION GUIDELINES
1) The prize was created to recognize rigorous and high-quality contributions to the field of
Catalan Studies made by scholars whose prime professional affiliation is with a university or research institute in North America.
2) All studies published between January 1, 2024, and December 1, 2025 will be eligible.
3) Studies must have already been published to be eligible for the competition. Those that have been accepted but not published will not be considered eligible.
4) The nomination process is completely open. Any person may nominate any study for consideration. To nominate a work, a bibliographical reference must be sent by December 1, 2025, to secretarinacs@gmail.com.
5) The prize may be granted in recognition of the quality of an article, a book chapter, a book, an academic edition or a translation.
6) The jury is composed of the following members: Olga Sendra Ferrer (Wesleyan University), Albert Lloret (University of Massachusetts, Amherst), and Aurélie Vialette (Yale University), chair.
7) The President of the North American Catalan Society will announce the award at the 2026 Colloquium of the Society, which will be held at the SUNY, Buffalo. The award will consist of a certificate and $800 to help defray the cost of the awardee’s participation in the Colloquium.
8) A simple bibliographical citation will suffice to nominate a given study or work. Should the need arise, the president of the selection committee may request a copy of a work or study from the author.
